Weekly Activity Report

May 24, 2018 – May 31, 2018

OVI:  On May 24, 2018 at approximately 12:50 a.m. a patrol officer, who was monitoring eastbound traffic on US 422, clocked an Audi traveling 71 mph in the 60 MPH zone.  The Audi increased its speed as it drove past two other officers conducting a traffic stop.  The reporting officer began following the Audi and observed the vehicle drive over the hash marks twice.  A traffic stop was initiated and the officer came into contact with the operator, Stephen Mason, 24, of Chagrin Falls who had an odor of an alcoholic beverage on his breath.  Mason failed field sobriety tests and was placed under arrest.  At the jail facility Mason submitted to a breath test resulting in a .132% BAC.  Mason was charged with OVI, Prohibited BAC, Marked Lanes, Speed and Approaching Stationary Public Safety Vehicle Displaying Emergency Lights.  721

Criminal Trespass:  On May 24, 2018 at 5:30 p.m. officers responded to Planet Fitness for a report that a male patron was being obnoxious, yelling and threatening employees.  Upon arrival officers spoke to the complainant, an employee of Planet Fitness, who stated that the patron, Lloyd Summers, 34, of Lorain was confronted as to why he was training other members.  Summers became upset and began yelling and making innuendoes of a threatening nature.  Summers was found to have a traffic warrant with the City of Macedonia and was subsequently turned over to them.  Summers was issued a written warning for Criminal Trespassing and advised not to return to the establishment.  729

CCW:  On May 25, 2018 at 8:45 p.m. Desean Mitchell, 22, of Cleveland was detained at an OVI checkpoint on Aurora Road after officers detected the odor of marijuana while conversing with him. Officers located 3.9 grams of marijuana and a black digital scale in Mitchell’s pockets.  Officers also located a loaded Smith & Wesson .357 caliber revolver underneath the driver’s seat.  Mitchell was charged with CCW, Drug Possession and Drug Paraphernalia.  740 

OVI:  On May 26, 2018 at 1:45 a.m. Duncan Hall, 28, of Reston, Va. was pulled over after he was clocked going 83 MPH in a 60 MPH zone on US 422.  The reporting officer made contact with Hall and detected a slight odor of alcohol on this breath and noticed that his eyes were bloodshot and glassy.  Hall refused to perform any field sobriety tests and was subsequently placed under arrest.  During the inventory of the vehicle officers discovered a loaded Smith & Wesson M&P Shield pistol in the locked glovebox.  Hall was found to have a valid CCW permit from Utah but failed to inform officers of that fact.  Hall was transported to the jail facility where he refused to submit to a breath test.  Hall was charged with OVI, Speed and Improper Handling of Firearms in a Motor Vehicle.  742

Driving Upon Divided Roadway:  On May 28, 2018 at 12:55 a.m. officers were dispatched to the area of US 422 eastbound for a report that a silver vehicle was traveling westbound in the eastbound lanes of travel.  The vehicle was located near MM 18/8 traveling in the wrong direction but at a low rate of speed.  As the motorist approached SOM Center Road officers were able to stop all eastbound traffic and get the attention of the wrong way driver, who eventually came to a stop just east of SOM Center Road.  The operator, a 92 year old female from Macedonia, stated that she was just trying to get home.  Solon paramedics were summoned to evaluate the elderly female.  The female was transported to her residence by a Solon officer and her vehicle was parked at the station for safekeeping.  756

Theft/Fleeing:  On May 30, 2018 at 3:01 p.m. officers were dispatched to Bath & Body Works, 6025 Kruse Drive, for a theft in progress call.  Upon arrival dispatch advised that the suspect female, later identified as Jacqueline Acres, 49, of Garfield Heights, was walking out of the store with merchandise that she did not pay for.  Acres was observed sitting in the driver’s seat of a red Ford Focus in the parking lot.  When Acres attempted to pull out of the parking spot an officer confronted her and told her to turn the vehicle off and to give him the car keys.  Acres turned the vehicle off but refused to turn over the keys.  After repeated requests for the keys Acres started the vehicle and accelerated through the parking lot onto Kurse Drive.  Acres then drove east on Bainbridge Road and then west on Solon Road.  Because Acres was operating her vehicle in a reckless manner the pursuit was terminated.  After terminating the pursuit officers lost sight of the vehicle.  A short time later officers observed Acres traveling north on Harper Road approaching US 422.  When Acres saw the police cruiser she accelerated, lost control of her vehicle and struck the median island before exiting her vehicle.  Acres again refused to comply with commands and re-entered her vehicle, locked the driver’s side door and attempted to put the vehicle into drive.   Officers broke the driver’s side window, turned the vehicle off and told possession of the keys.  Acres was uncooperative while being placed under arrest.  She was found to have numerous warrants including a felony warrant through the Ohio Department of Rehab/Adult Parole Authority and a felony warrant through CCSO for escape.  During the course of her reckless driving Acres struck three other vehicles causing minor damage.  Acres was charged with Theft, Fleeing/Eluding, Obedience to Traffic Control Devices, Resisting Arrest, DUS and Warrant for Other Agency.  765

Disorderly Conduct/Open Container:  On May 30, 2018 at 8:23 p.m. officers responded to the Solon Community Park for an intoxicated male at the baseball fields.  Upon arrival the reporting officer spoke with the complainant, an off-duty Solon police officer, who stated that he observed James Ogle, 45, of Solon walking with an unsteady gait and with an odor of alcohol on his person.  When the off-duty officer realized that Ogle was walking to his vehicle with his 10 year old son he confronted him and took his vehicle keys and a Coke bottle that contained a mixture of Rum and Coke.  Ogle voluntarily submitted to a portable BAC test which resulted in a .221% BAC.  Ogle was issued Misdemeanor Citations for Disorderly Conduct and Open Container.  Ogle’s wife was contacted and she transported her husband and son home.   767
