Scenic Railroad Hits One Million Volunteer Hours

PENINSULA – The Cuyahoga Valley Scenic Railroad (CVSR) surpassed one million volunteer hours during the first quarter of 2018 for a total of 1,000,065 hours since 1999, when records are available. This is a major achievement as volunteers play an integral role in the many excursions and events CVSR offers year-round.

“We are excited to acknowledge this major accomplishment by our volunteers,” says Joe Mazur, president of CVSR. “Volunteers generously give their time to make our events and programs run smoothly. They are our greatest asset and we are extremely appreciative of their contributions. Without their constant support and dedication, we would not be able to run the many events that have made CVSR a destination for visitors in Northeast Ohio and beyond.”

With a base of more than 1,800, volunteers serve in a variety of roles, including: trainmen, conductors, brakemen, engineers, maintenance workers at the trainyard, elves on The Polar Express™, and varying positions on the many special event excursions offered each year. In 2017, CVSR volunteers contributed more than 104,200 hours total, an increase of nearly 11,000 over 2016.

There are plenty of ways to get involved at CVSR. Orientation for new volunteers is scheduled on July 17 and other dates throughout the year. For more information, go to cvsr.com/volunteer or call 234-759-0091.
