(Wadsworth) - Congressman Jim Renacci easily defeated his rivals in the Republican Senatorial primary.
Renacci had the backing of President Donald Trump but even his supporters are not sure how much the endorsement helped.
Renacci will now square off against Democratic Senator Sherrod Brown in November, in a battle of conservative versus liberal, though both candidates claim to be moderates.
In his victory speech Renacci said his first goal is to unify the Republican Party. He ran against 5 GOP opponents in the primary, with his biggest competition coming from Cleveland banker Mike Gibbons who garnered over 31% of the vote. Renacci received about 47%.
Brown had no opponent in the Democratic primary.
