(CLEVELAND) The recent conviction of Bill Cosby, the celebrity sex abuse cases of Harvey Weinstein and Kevin Spacey, these are all part of the solution, according to Cleveland author Christopher Johnston, who has looked at the issue of sexual assault for his book, "Shattering Silences."
"The silence is the biggest danger for all these crimes," says Johnston. "If no one says anything, there's no way to move forward."
Johnston says his is the first book to not only look at the problem of sexual assault but to study solutions. He's told the stories of local victims as well as looked at cases around the country. He says jurisdictions, departments, and agencies need to come out of their silos and collaborate both locally and around the country. He adds there's also a need for new legislation.
