Former Cleveland Councilman Joe Cimperman pleads guilty

(CLEVELAND) The man who served Cleveland as a city councilman for 16 years has plead guilty to 26 misdemeanor ethics charges for having an unlawful interest in a public contract.  The charges stem from his votes in city council to award city money to LAND Studio, a design firm where his wife works.

The Ohio City councilman agreed to pay a fine of $10,000 at his preliminary hearing. Common Pleas Court Judge Dick Ambrose assigned the case to Judge Michael Russo who will decide whether to accept the plea deal. Cimperman is free on a $1000 personal bond. His next court date is May 8th. He faces a maximum of one year in county jail.

Cimperman served in council ifrom 1998 until 2012 when he stepped down to become president of Global Cleveland.
