Sleepless in Seattle, Indians fall to Mariners 2-1

Corey Kluber had a complete game with 91 pitches. But who knew the difference of this game would be the two-run homer from Nelson Cruz in the first inning.

King Felix lived up to the hype for the Mariners on his 10th straight opening day start as he pitch five plus shutout innings. Despite a limited pitch count, only two hits were allowed by Hernandez. The Mariners five relievers held the Indians to within a run thanks to a sixth inning scare by Yan Gomes who had a run.

But in the 9th inning, Mariners closer Edwin Diaz struck out Gomes and Tyler Naquin after hitting two batters and allowing Rajai Davis to reach third.

But the good news is Corey Kluber performed like a Cy Young winner and this was only game one of the season.

Indians will be off Friday. Then this series continues Saturday with Carlos Carrasco taking the mound for the Indians against lefty James Paxton. Total Tribe Coverage begins at 2pm with Tribe Talk followed by the GanleyAuto.com Tribe Insider with Mark "Munch" Bishop at 3pm, Indians Warm-Up with Rosey at 3:37pm before first pitch at 4:10pm.
