Groundbreaking in April for Playhouse Square Tower

Playhouse Square Apartment Tower

(Cleveland) - Groundbreaking is expected in early April for the new 34-story apartment tower being constructed for the Playhouse Square Association. Site preparations start next week.

The complex is being built near the corner of East 17th and Euclid Avenue. The land is currently a parking lot owned by Playhouse Square, with that lot scheduled to close on March 26th.

The glass paneled structure is a $135 million dollar project, and is being constructed by the Gilbane Building Company.

Playhouse Square's Allen Wyant says the tower will have 319 rental units along with 550 parking spaces, and is being constructed on Euclid Avenue across from the Keith Building.

Wyant tells Newsradio WTAM 1100, the Playhouse Square apartment tower will be a glass and metal structure that will twist just slightly.

He adds that the paneling on the parking garage will be animated, mimicking a theater curtain. These will be luxury apartments, that will cater to residents who want the enjoy the Playhouse Square lifestyle.

Wyant says names are already on a waiting list, with the tower scheduled to open in summer of 2020.
