GOODYEAR, Ariz. -- The Indians improved their Cactus League exhibition record to 3-2-1 on Wednesday afternoon at Goodyear Ballpark topping the Seattle Mariners 4-2. The Tribe had a pair of split-squad games Wednesday with the other group going to Tempe to play the Los Angeles Angels.
In Goodyear Mike Clevinger made his second Cactus League start going two innings, only allowing two hits and one run. The hard-throwing right-hander only made eight pitches. Zach McAllister pitched two scoreless innings, striking out one. Lefty Shawn Morimando went two scoreless frames and Carlos Torres also pitched one scoreless inning.
Offensively the Indians were paced by Melvin Upton Jr. who opened up the Tribe lead to 3-1 with a 2-run homer in the fifth inning. Jack Murphy made it 4-1 Tribe with an RBI single in the sixth inning.
The Indians continue Cactus League action on Thursday in Glendale when they visit the Los Angeles Dodgers.
