Kipnis, Shaffer power Indians past Oakland

GOODYEAR, Ariz. -- Two-time Cy Young Award Winner Corey Kluber made his Cactus League debut, Jason Kipnis homered twice and Richie Shaffer hit a grand slam as the Indians held off the Oakland Athletics 16-8 on Tuesday at Goodyear Ballpark.

Kluber, making his first start of the spring, went two strong innings, allowing only one hit, one run, one walk, while striking out three. 

Kipnis homered twice giving him three on the spring, while Shaffer ripped a grand slam in the 7th inning. The victory helped the Indians improve their Cactus League exhibition record to 2-2-1 this spring.

The Indians are back in action on Wednesday with a split-squad game. Half the club will go to Tempe, Ariz. with the other half staying at Goodyear Ballpark.
