Historic Downtown Church To Be Auctioned Off

(Cleveland) – A downtown building, steeped in history, can be yours for at least $250,000.

On Thursday, a real estate auction will be held to sell off the iconic First Methodist Church building at Euclid Avenue and East 30th Street, along with the school building behind it.  The 11 a.m. auction is open to the public.

The 113-year-old church sanctuary building, and the school, built many years later, is up for sale, as the congregation no longer needs it.  The First Church congregation merged some years ago with a congregation at University Circle, and the blended congregation holds services in what is now called University Circle United Methodist Church at Chester Avenue and East 107th Street.

The minimum bid that will be accepted for the church property is $250,000, but the congregation is hoping the going price will be more than that.

The congregation decided to put the church up for sale after a tenant moved out of the school building, combined with the realization it costs a lot of money to maintain a building that’s not being used.
