Topgolf coming to Independence

(Independence) - Global sports entertainment company Topgolf today officially announced that the Cleveland market will be home to its third Ohio venue.

Topgolf plans to start construction on the 65,000-square-foot venue with a few months, located in Independence, with a projected opening in 2019.

Topgolf blends technology and entertainment, for golfers and non-golfers, children and adults, to create a high-level socializing experience.

“Adding Topgolf to the Independence business community is a significant win for us, as it broadens the Rockside area’s amenity mix,” Independence Mayor Anthony L. Togliatti told Newsradio WTAM 1100 “Its presence here will serve our families and corporate citizens alike with entertainment options that no one else in the region has.”

Guests will be able to enjoy point-scoring golf games using microchipped balls that instantly score themselves, showing players the accuracy and distance of their shots on a TV screen in their hitting bay.

The venues also feature a chef-driven menu, top-shelf drinks, big screen TVs and music in climate-controlled hitting bays for all-seasons comfort. Year-round programming includes events for kids and families, social leagues, golf tournaments, golf instruction and more.

“We are so excited to continue our Ohio expansion with new venues in Cleveland and Columbus,” said Topgolf Chief Development Officer Chris Callaway. “We are looking forward to bringing Topgolf’s all-seasons entertainment for the local communities to enjoy.”

The new Topgolf venue will be located near the Embassy Suites at 5800 Rockside Woods Blvd. N in the city of Independence.

Topgolf currently has a venue open in West Chester near Cincinnati and last November announced a location that broke ground in Columbus.

Topgolf’s economic impact in its local communities is remarkable, creating 400 full- and part-time jobs at each venue and serving as an anchor tenant that tends to attract other popular franchises to the area.

In fact, its economic output in Cleveland alone is expected to exceed $264.5 million over a 10-year-period, according to a third-party audit.

Topgolf currently has 41 venues entertaining more than 13 million Guests annually, original content shows, next-gen simulator lounges through Topgolf Swing Suite, the global Topgolf Tour competition, pop-up social experiences like Topgolf Crush, Toptracer technology as seen on TV, and the world’s largest digital golf audience.
