GOODYEAR, Ariz. - The Indians just began spring training but the front office isn't wasting time staying busy adding depth at their catcher position.
On Thursday the Tribe announced the signing of veteran catcher Ryan Hanigan.
Hanigan, 37, agreed to a minor league contract with the Indians and will report to big league camp with the club.
In 33 games with the Colorado Rockies last season Hanigan hit .267 with two home runs and 12 RBI. In his 11-year career Hanigan has also played with the Tampa Bay Rays, Cincinnati Reds and Boston Red Sox.
The Indians are expected to have both Yan Gomes and Roberto Perez handle their catching duties again, however adding depth and protection is always nice for an MLB team.
