(CHAGRIN FALLS) - The Chagrin Falls Popcorn Shop is carrying on a 5 year tradition of dropping a giant popcorn ball to mark the new year. The new version of the giant popcorn ball weighs in at a record 100 pounds! This years ball will be hoisted up the 50 foot flag pole at 10:00 AM on Sunday Dec. 31, and will slowly drop while counting down to the new year slightly before midnight.
There will be over 200 popcorn balls launched into the crowd via Rob Schwinds Popcorn Ball Bazookas at midnight. Retired Police Chief Brosius will fire the official village cannon to ring in the new year.
This year's ball is again completely edible and will be served at First Federal Lakewood’s Chagrin Falls branch starting Jan. 2. Ingredients include Ohio grown popcorn, butter, sugar, glucose, and water.
