CLEVELAND – Week 13 of the NFL slate opened with the Dallas Cowboys throttling the Washington Redskins 38-14 in a critical Thursday Night Football match up between two teams on the verge of being eliminated from playoff contention. As we get set to reveal our Week 13 slate, it is worth noting that “Picks With Nick” is enjoying another winning season selecting games against the spread (for entertainment purposes only, of course) following a two week break.
Following our first season, in which we nailed 54% of the games we selected against the spread (ATS), we are back at it again enjoying another winning season so far. In fact, here’s our numbers through 13 weeks of college football and 12 weeks of the NFL against the number for full transparency:
CFB: 31-25-2 (55%)
NFL: 25-19-1 (57%)
Total: 56-44-3 (56%)
Our picks are made against Las Vegas oddsmakers merely helping create football interactions on Facebook and Twitter, as well as online and on-air content for Newsradio WTAM 1100 and WTAM.com.
Similar to last football season, our goal is to win 53% of our picks against the spread. Las Vegas sports books, give us 11/10 odds or -110, so in order to break even in picking games against the spread (ATS) we must win 52.4% of the games we select. Winning 58% of picks ATS would place you among the most elite sports handicappers in the world. We’ll shoot for somewhere between 53% - 58% again this season.
We are again keeping our college and NFL selections separate, but we will update the results weekly with full transparency seeing how we stack up against the Las Vegas oddsmakers. We are coming off a winning first season in which we hit 54% ATS in college football and NFL combined in 2016.
“Picks With Nick” will also feature a radio segment weekly on Newsradio WTAM 1100 discussing our selections.
Below is our full slate of NFL picks for Week 13 featuring four selections ATS:
Game: Minnesota Vikings vs. Atlanta Falcons
Where: Atlanta, Georgia – Mercedes-Benz Stadium
Kickoff: 1:00 pm ET
TV: FOX
Spread: Falcons -3
Nick’s Pick: The Vikings have been very impressive in starting this season 9-2 and 4-1 when playing outside of Minneapolis. However, the Falcons are desperate at 7-4 on the season and will look to turn this into a track meet at Mercedes-Benz Stadium that Case Keenum and a limited Minnesota offense simply can’t keep up with. Nick’s Pick is Falcons -3.
Game: Denver Broncos vs. Miami Dolphins
Where: Miami, Florida – Hard Rock Stadium
Kickoff: 1:00 pm ET
TV: FOX
Spread: Denver -1.5
Nick’s Pick: We feel sorry for the people who actually have to watch this game. That said, the Broncos are awful on the road at 0-5 and while Miami is also a mess, the Dolphins should do enough at home to win this game and improve their record to 5-7 on the season. Nick’s Pick is Dolphins +1.5.
Game: Cleveland Browns vs. Los Angeles Chargers
Where: Carson, California – StubHub Center
Kickoff: 4:05 pm ET
TV: CBS
Spread: Chargers -14
Nick’s Pick: Bloodbath. No other way to describe how this match up will shape out. Yes, Josh Gordon returns for the Browns, but he does not play defense. The Chargers are perhaps the hottest team in the NFL right now and the Browns certainly won’t be slowing them down. This could be 31-7 by halftime. Nick’s Pick is Chargers -14.
Game: Philadelphia Eagles vs. Seattle Seahawks
Where: Seattle, Washington – CenturyLink Field
Kickoff: 8:30 pm ET
TV: NBC
Spread: Eagles -5.5
Nick’s Pick: The Eagles are the better team. The Seahawks are banged up with injuries. Philadelphia should win this game. But a primetime TV game with the 12th Man behind them? This game should also stay close. That’s why Nick’s Pick is Seahawks +5.5.
