CLEVELAND – Week 10 of the NFL slate kicked off with an NFC West clash that saw the Seattle Seahawks barrel past the Arizona Cardinals 22-16. While we did not officially pick a side in that game, Nick did give out Cardinals (+6.5) on “The Sports Feed” on Newsradio WTAM 1100. “Picks With Nick” is continuing to make selections against the spread (for entertainment purposes only, of course) in both college and NFL football.
Following our first season, in which we nailed 54% of the games we selected against the spread (ATS), we are back at it again enjoying another winning season so far. In fact, here’s our numbers through ten weeks of college football and nine weeks of the NFL against the number for full transparency:
CFB: 26-24-2 (52%)
NFL: 23-15-1 (61%)
Total: 49-39-3 (56%)
Our picks are made against Las Vegas oddsmakers merely helping create football interactions on Facebook and Twitter, as well as online and on-air content for Newsradio WTAM 1100 and WTAM.com.
Similar to last football season, our goal is to win 53% of our picks against the spread. Las Vegas sports books, give us 11/10 odds or -110, so in order to break even in picking games against the spread (ATS) we must win 52.4% of the games we select. Winning 58% of picks ATS would place you among the most elite sports handicappers in the world. We’ll shoot for somewhere between 53% - 58% again this season.
We are again keeping our college and NFL selections separate, but we will update the results weekly with full transparency seeing how we stack up against the Las Vegas oddsmakers. We are coming off a winning first season in which we hit 54% ATS in college football and NFL combined in 2016.
“Picks With Nick” will also feature a radio segment weekly on Newsradio WTAM 1100 discussing our selections.
Below is our full slate of NFL picks featuring five selections ATS for Week 10:

Game: Minnesota Vikings vs. Washington Redskins
Where: Landover, Maryland – FedEx Field
Kickoff: 1:00 pm ET
TV: FOX
Spread: Vikings -1.5
Nick’s Pick: The only reason the Vikings are favored in this spot on the road is the fact that they are coming off a bye and have not played since throttling the Browns in London, while the ‘Skins are fresh off a physical victory in Seattle against the Seahawks. However, this game means much more to Kirk Cousins and this Washington squad and if they can turn this game into a track meet, Case Keenum and the Vikings’ offense won’t be able to keep up. Nick’s Pick is Redskins +1.5.
Game: New Orleans Saints vs. Buffalo Bills
Where: Buffalo, New York – New Era Field
Kickoff: 1:00 pm ET
TV: FOX
Spread: Saints -3
Nick’s Pick: The Saints are finding ways to win, even on the road this year where they have gone 3-1. However, Buffalo is 4-0 when playing at New Era Field and enjoyed some extra rest following last Thursday’s loss to the Jets on primetime TV. Cold weather conditions should help the Bills slow down the tempo of this football game and control the clock, forcing New Orleans out of their comfort zone. Nick’s Pick is Bills +3.
Game: Houston Texans vs. Los Angeles Rams
Where: Los Angeles, California – Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum
Kickoff: 4:05 pm ET
TV: CBS
Spread: Rams -12
Nick’s Pick: The Rams are quietly having a nice season at 6-2 and may be one of the surprise teams of this NFL season when the Playoffs begin. Meanwhile, the Texans have been dismantled by injuries to DeShaun Watson, JJ Watt and other contributing players. Yes, the Rams ultimately win this game…but spotting the Texans over ten points is simply too much here. Nick’s Pick is Texans +12.
Game: Dallas Cowboys vs. Atlanta Falcons
Where: Atlanta, Georgia – Mercedes-Benz Stadium
Kickoff: 4:25 pm ET
TV: FOX
Spread: Falcons -3
Nick’s Pick: Fine! It’s probably time for us to select a favorite, right? Up until this point all of our weekend college and NFL selections ATS have been on the side of the underdog team. The Cowboys are playing better overall football, but the Falcons are in desperation mode in front of their home crowd. Matt Ryan showed last year these are spots where he’ll throw the team on his shoulders to grind out a win even if it looks ugly. Nick’s Pick is Falcons -3.
Game: New England Patriots vs. Denver Broncos
Where: Denver, Colorado – Sports Authority Field
Kickoff: 8:30 pm ET
TV: NBC
Spread: Patriots -7.5
Nick’s Pick: Tom Brady and the Patriots appear to be finding their groove again and they come into this game at 6-2 on the season, 3-0 when playing away from Gillette Stadium. Meanwhile the Broncos are just 3-5 and are an offensive mess right now, especially at quarterback. Going into Mile High is never easy though, and while Brady and Co. probably find a way to win this football game, the Denver defense steps up to keep this game close. Yes, maybe even just by “the hook!”. Nick’s Pick is Broncos +7.5.
