Lorain County Man Mauled By Dog

(Brighton Twp.) - A Lorain County is in the hospital after being mauled by a dog at his home.

Lorain County deputies say the 72-year-old man and his wife were watching their grandchild in one end of a duplex on State Route 18 near Wellington.  Three dogs were confined to the other half of the duplex.  The man apparently walked into the other half of the duplex and was attacked by one of the dogs.

An Ohio State Highway Patrol trooper nearby heard the radio traffic, arrived on the scene, saw the dog attacking the man, and shot the dog dead.

The man was taken to MetroHealth Medical Center in Cleveland in critical condition.  The man's wife had minor injuries.

The Lorain County Dog Warden has determined the other two dogs were no threat to the family.
