Fatal Wrong-Way Crash Closed 90

(Cleveland) - Thursday morning's rush hour was a mess for west side drivers because of a fatal wrong-way crash on I-90.

Cleveland Police say a 2001 Chrysler going west in the eastbound lanes of I-90 ran into an eastbound 2009 Mitsubishi near West 44th Street about 4:00 a.m.  The driver of the Chrysler, a 75-year-old man, was pronounced dead at the scene.  The driver of the Mitsubishi, a 43-year-old man, was taken to MetroHealth for treatment of a broken left clavicle and a broken right wrist.

The traffic backup from the crash was all the way to West 117th, and it also caused backups on Lorain Avenue, Clifton Avenue, Detroit Avenue, and the West Shoreway as drivers looked for alternate routes.

The crash remains under investigation.
