CLEVELAND – Week 6 of the college football season kicks off Thursday evening with a clash of Top 25 teams when No. 17 Louisville visits No. 24 NC State. “Picks With Nick” does not have a selection for that ACC showdown, but below are five picks against the spread (for entertainment purposes only, of course) for this weekend’s slate of college games. We are coming off yet another winning weekend in college football and the NFL and look to put together back-to-back winning seasons of picking games ATS.

A quick glance at our numbers on the season against the Vegas spread:

CFB: 13-12-1 (52%)

NFL: 11-5 (69%)

Total: 24-17-1 (59%)

Our picks are made against Las Vegas oddsmakers merely helping create football interactions on Facebook and Twitter, as well as online and on-air content for Newsradio WTAM 1100 and WTAM.com.

Similar to last football season, our goal is to win 53% of our picks against the spread. Las Vegas sports books, give us 11/10 odds or -110, so in order to break even in picking games against the spread (ATS) we must win 52.4% of the games we select. Winning 58% of picks ATS would place you among the most elite sports handicappers in the world. We’ll shoot for somewhere between 53% - 58% again this season.

We are again keeping our college and NFL selections separate, but we will update the results weekly with full transparency seeing how we stack up against the Las Vegas oddsmakers. We are coming off a winning first season in which we hit 54% ATS in college football and NFL combined in 2016.

“Picks With Nick” will also feature a radio segment weekly on Newsradio WTAM 1100 discussing our selections.

Below is our full slate college football picks featuring five selections ATS for Week 6:

Game: Boise State Broncos vs. BYU Cougars

Where: Provo, Utah – LaVell Edwards Stadium

Kickoff: 10:15 pm ET

TV: ESPN

Spread: Boise State -9

Nick’s Pick: On paper, BYU is a mess right now. The Cougars have dropped four-straight games, but it’s a stretch that includes losses to LSU, Utah and Wisconsin. BYU could be in danger of missing their first bowl game since 2004 and while they probably won’t beat a more talented Boise State team Friday night, Kalani Sitake’s squad will keep this game close with a chance to win late in front of the hometown fans. Nick’s Pick is BYU +9.

Game: Iowa State vs. Oklahoma Sooners

Where: Norman, Oklahoma – Memorial Stadium

Kickoff: 12:00 pm ET

TV: FOX

Spread: Oklahoma -28

Nick’s Pick: Third-ranked Oklahoma has their eyes on a realistic chance to make the College Football Playoff and a huge showdown next week with Texas. The Sooners win this game and are more talented on both sides of the football, but the Cyclones take advantage of an Oklahoma team that is most likely looking too far ahead not necessarily focused on an 11:00 am CT against Iowa State. Nick’s Pick is Iowa State +28.

Game: West Virginia Mountaineers vs. TCU Horned Frogs

Where: Fort Worth, Texas – Amon G. Carter Stadium

Kickoff: 3:30 pm ET

TV: FS1

Spread: TCU -13.5

Nick’s Pick: TCU may just be the best team in the Big 12. Defensively Gary Patterson’s team is loaded and they can score with any team in the country. The Horned Frogs will be ready to pounce and should win this game against the Mountaineers, but in a game that may not be all that close, West V finds a way to score late to make the final score look closer than the game actually is. Nick’s Pick is West Virginia +13.5.

Game: Minnesota Golden Gophers vs. Purdue Boilermakers

Where: West Lafayette, Indiana – Ross-Ade Stadium

Kickoff: 3:30 pm ET

TV: ESPN2

Spread: Purdue -3.5

Nick’s Pick: It’s probably time to take a favorite, right? Lately the underdogs have been barking for us, but in this Big Ten showdown we side with the Boilermakers. While Minnesota dropped last week’s match up to Maryland and a third-string quarterback, Purdue has enjoyed a week off preparing for this conference clash while putting together one of the more impressive starts to the 2017 season. Nick’s Pick is Purdue -3.5.

Game: Stanford Cardinal vs. Utah Utes

Where: Salt Lake City, Utah – Rice-Eccles Stadium

Kickoff: 10:15 pm ET

TV: FS1

Spread: Stanford -5.5

Nick’s Pick: Sure, Stanford is probably the better overall team with a talent edge on both sides of the football, but giving more than four points to No. 20 Utah at home seems a bit high. Nick’s Pick will ride Utah +5.5 late Saturday night.
