(Cleveland) - The Northern Ohio Red Cross now has 20 volunteers on the scene in Houston or in transit there.
Spokesman Jim McIntyre says they are committed to being there until their job is done. Most will be working in shelters taking care of and feeding evacuees.
McIntyre tells Newsradio WTAM 1100, residents here are stepping up as well, donating 10, 20, or 100 dollars at time, with corporations contributing thousands.
He does ask that you not donate material goods, because they cost too much to prepare and transport.
McIntyre explains, once partners on scene in Texas are able to assess the local needs, and establish warehousing and distribution logistics, it may become necessary to ask for donated goods.
Financial donations can be accessed quickly to support those affected by the storm.
Organizations such as The Salvation Army and the American Red Cross, and their many local partners, continue to monitor the situation.
