Early voting is underway in Cleveland

Citizens Head To The Polls To Vote

(Cleveland) - Early voting is underway in the Cleveland mayor's race.

The first ballots were cast this morning at the Cuyahoga County Board of Elections downtown.

Board of Elections spokesperson Mike West says turnout was very light today, but expects interest to increase as campaigns ramp up around the city.

Nine candidates are in the mayor's race, including incumbent Mayor Frank Jackson.  Voters also will elect council members for all 17 Cleveland wards.

The primary election is September 12th.  The top two finishers will face off in the November 7th general election.
