Kizer Comes Through, Browns Take Preseason Opener

Fans will say the preseason does not matter, but do not tell that to Browns Coach, Hue Jackson.

"I just think it is good for the confidence of our players." The second year coach said after defeating New Orleans in the team's preseason opener. "They needed to go win this game. We found a way to do that."

Rookie Quarterback, DeShone Kizer showed off his arm hitting two deep throws, including a 45-yard bomb to second year receiver, Jordan Payton for what would be the game winning score. The second round pick finished the night going 11-18 for 184 Yards and the one touchdown.

Neither of the other quarterbacks who played, including the game's starter, Brock Osweiler, found the endzone.

The defense looked impressive, though Drew Brees and Adrian Peterson did not play. First overall pick Miles Garrett notched two tackles, including one for a loss, to go along with a quarterback hurry in limited action.

"When he (Garrett) had an opportunity to rush, he rushed well and that there was a little pressure here and there. He made one play in the backfield. I did see that," Coach Jackson explained. "I will watch more once I get an opportunity to see the tape.”

Next up, the Browns will host the New York Giants on Monday Night Football. Kickoff will be at 8 pm.
