Two Girls Killed, Boy Injured, In Summit County

Summit County Sheriff

(Coventry Twp.) - Charges are pending in a crash Sunday afternoon in which two teenage girls died, and a teenage boy is reported to be in critical condition.

Summit County Deputies say a 24-year-old New Franklin woman was driving along South Main Street in Coventry Township, when her car crossed the edge line of the road, also called the fog line, and her car hit three children, all walking northbound on South Main.  The section of South Main where the teens were walking has no sidewalks.

Taylor Galloway, 14, of Akron, and Amber Thoma, 14, of Coventry Township, were two of three teens struck by a car on South Main Street.  A 15-year-old boy was taken to Akron Children's Hospital.

Galloway was pronounced dead at the scene and Thoma died at the hospital.

According to the Coventry Local Schools, both girls that died were eighth graders at Coventry Middle School.  Tuesday's ceremony at the school to mark the 8th graders graduating to high school was postponed.  On Monday night, hundreds turned out at Ingleside Park for a vigil.

Charges are pending the outcome of the investigation by the Summit County Sheriff's Office.
