Kirkersville Police Chief Shot, Killed Responding To Active Shooter

(Kirkersville) - Four people are dead in a shooting at a nursing home in Kirkersville, Ohio, east of Columbus.  Licking County Sheriff Randy Thorp says the dead include the gunman and the local chief of police, Steven Eric Disario.   Thorp said it's too soon to say what led to the shooting.  The other two people who were killed were employees at the Pine Kirk Care Center.  Thorp explained that Disario was the father of six, with a baby on the way.

The encounter began when the suspect was found hiding near the nursing home by two people, who the suspect took hostage for a short time.  When Disario showed up, police said the suspect fired at him and the hostages ran away.  They were not reported injured.

Thorp said the last radio transmission from Disario was that he had the subject in sight.  Responding officers found the body of their police chief in the street.
