Tribe spring training notes from Goodyear, Arizona

As the Tribe hits the weekend news on Michael Brantley continues to be positive and the young guys on the 40 man roster continue to impress. Here are a few notes as the weekend begins here in Goodyear.

-The news on P Cody Anderson isn’t great but isn’t as bad as it could be at this point. He’s been diagnosed with a mild UCL sprain and the club is in the process of completing their due diligence on what is most appropriate going forward.

-Anderson will get a 2nd opinion on the elbow. The good news at this point is that Anderson doesn’t need surgery on his elbow as of now.  Anderson has been known to be one of their tougher guys on the team.  Terry Francona hopes this situation will be a learning experience for Anderson that it’s ok to be tough but when your elbow or arm hurts let the trainers know.

-Trevor Bauer started against the Giants and pitched 4 innings, the first Indians starter to get that deep into a game. He allowed 3 hits, 3 runs, 1 earned. He also gave up 2 home runs.  Bauer has been tinkering with a split fingered fastball that he hopes fits into his game plan to give hitters another pitch to worry about.

-Michael Brantley had another big day as he played left field and hit the ball hard as he played 5 innings in a simulated game. His swing seems strong and aggressive at this point. The only question is how he will feel the next day.

-Prospect Bradley Zimmer went 2-3 with a pair of doubles and a RBI and is now hitting .370 on the spring.

-Nellie Rodriguez added a pair of RBI singles. Shawn Armstrong continued his strong spring by working a scoreless 6th inning. He has not allowed a run over his 5 spring innings.

-On Saturday the Indians will host the Royals. Danny Salazar will take the mound for the good guys. Lefty Jason Vargas will start for the Royals.

-The game will be broadcasted on WTAM 1100V and the Indians Radio Network.
