After a late night win over Seattle the Indians were back at work on Thursday as they hosted the Angels as Josh Tomlin made his spring debut. Here are a few notes from the day.
-Everything continues to point up for Michael Brantley as he had great swings in Wednesday’s simulated game against Zach McAllister. The best part for Brantley is he woke up on Thursday and felt good.
-On Friday Brantley will play in another simulated game. In this action he will also play 5 innings in the outfield. For Terry Francona he’s happiest to see Brantley swinging the bat aggressively, but he also stated that they made it pretty far without Brantley last year this year they want to do it with Brantley apart of things.
-Cody Anderson has been shut down as he is dealing with elbow discomfort. He’s had an MRI and we will know more soon. Anderson’s toughness is appreciated but Francona hopes he’s learned to let trainers know sooner if his arm is hurting him.
-Jason Kipnis returned to DH today and went 1-3.
-Austin Jackson got his first action of the spring and hit a solo home run in his 2nd at bat of the spring.
-Josh Tomlin tossed 3.2 innings in his spring debut and didn’t allow a run or walk.
-Tyler Naquin hit a solo homer in the 7th in his first at bat after fouling a ball off of his foot earlier this week.
- On Friday the team will travel to Scottsdale to face the Giants. Trevor Bauer is set to make his 3rd start of the spring as he hasn’t allowed a run yet this spring as he’s been working on a split fingered fastball.
