(Medina) - Strongsville Police say a police chase early Tuesday morning ended when a suspect crashed on I-71 outside Medina, a police officer fired his gun, and the suspect was found dead in his vehicle.
Strongsville Police say that at about 2:30 a.m., they attempted to stop a panel van for a traffic violation. The van kept going south on I-71 at a high rate of speed.
The chase ended up south of Ohio Route 3 outside Medina. That's where a Strongsville officer fired his gun, and the suspect was pronounced dead at the scene.
Strongsville Police have asked for the Ohio Bureau of Criminal Investigation to take over the investigation.
Southbound I-71 was closed for a few hours between Route 3 and I-271.
