GOODYEAR, Ariz. -- When the 2017 MLB season begins in a little over a month, the consensus among baseball experts, media members and even objective fans is that the Cleveland Indians and the Chicago Cubs have the best chances to get back to the World Series for a second consecutive season.
Las Vegas sportsbook oddsmakers are apparently in agreement.
On Wednesday, the Westgate Superbook in Las Vegas released their divisional odds for MLB this upcoming 2017 season and both the Tribe and Cubbies have the best shot to win their respective divisions for a second-straight year.
The Westgate Superbook list both Cleveland and Chicago as heavy -600 favorites. In other words, if an individual were legally wagering on the Indians or Cubs at a sportsbook to win their divisions for $100, you would have to risk losing $600 if it did not end up happening.
Yes, a hefty price for two big-time favorites.
The next two biggest favorites to win their respective divisions according to the Westgate Superbook were the Boston Red Sox and Washington Nationals at -160 odds. For example, wagering $100 on either the 'Nats to win the NL-East Division or the BoSox to win the AL-East Division would put bettors on the hook for $160 if those clubs did not come through winning their respective divisions.
More evidence as to how much Vegas oddsmakers respect both the Indians and Cubs as well as their chances to get back to the World Series.
