Public transit to resume on Public Square

(Cleveland) - The Greater Cleveland Regional Transit Authority is preparing to route buses through Public Square on Superior Avenue with the beginning of service March 6.

Four bus routes will make stops within the Square on Superior Avenue: the 3, 26, 38, 81.

These are the same bus routes that were originally planned to serve Superior Avenue after construction. All Trolleys will continue to go around the Square.

Councilman Zack Reed is calling it a victory for Clevelanders, and the riders of RTA. The Federal Transit Authority had threatened to fine RTA $12 million dollars over the banning of bus traffic.

Reed had opposed City Hall's closure of the square to public transit,  though he admits that it may be prudent to close Public Square for special events.

Cleveland Mayor Frank Jackson cited security concerns for the closing, following the multi-million dollar renovation of Public Square.
