John Madden, Hall of Fame NFL coach and broadcaster, has died at the age of 85 according to a statement from the NFL.
Madden was the youngest head coach in pro football when Al Davis hired him to coach the Oakland Raiders leading them to a Super Bowl title. He is still has the all-time highest winning percentage among all coaches who won at least 100 games.
After he retired from coaching, Madden went to the broadcast booth where he was one of the most popular figures in American sports.
Madden was also known for a video game which not only used his name but which he was actively involved with developing. A cause of death was not announced.
