Top Democrats are defending a California congresswoman after her comment about former Minneapolis cop Derek Chauvin.
Maxine Waters called for protesters to "get more confrontational" if he's acquitted of killing George Floyd. She then clarified that was in regard to changing the justice system.
House Speaker Nancy Pelosi says Waters wasn't inciting violence and didn't need to apologize. "No, Maxine talked about confrontation in the manner of the civil rights movement."
Meanwhile, House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy is accusing Waters of "inciting violence" and will take action if Pelosi doesn’t.
Waters’ comment is in the spotlight because the prosecutor says the words could intimidate the jury. The judge said he was disappointed that elected officials spoke ahead of the verdict and her words could be used to call for a mistrial on appeal.
