After more than a century and nearly 17,000 games played, The Cleveland Indians will soon drop the name 'Indians.'
'The New York Post' is reporting the team will officially drop the name although it's not known how the team will identify itself moving forward.
The Indians organization has phased out the popular Chief Wahoo' logo in recent years. This team's name change comes on the heels of the formerly known Washington Redskins who dropped that moniker this year in favor of the Washington Football Team.
The Indians name and mascot, Chief Wahoo, have become the ire of Native Americans groups over the years who claim they are offensive.
The Indians have used that name since 1915. The name could be officially dropped this week.
