Celebrity attorney Michael Avenatti has been slapped with an indictment alleging he stole the identity of his client, porn star Stormy Daniels, in an effort to steal $300,000 she was due for a book about her efforts to expose President Trump and an affair she claims she had with Trump years ago.
Avenatti is believed to have forged Daniels' signature on a document alerting her literary agent to send money on her book advance to an account he oversaw.
The federal indictment indicates Avenatti then started spending nearly $149,000 that was wired to the account for his own purposes.
Avenatti says no money was ever misappropriated or mishandled. He says he looks forward to a jury hearing the case.
