(Thousand Oaks, CA) - Twelve people were shot and killed and a lone gunman is dead after the gunman opened fire on patrons of the Borderline Bar and Grill in Thousand Oaks, California outside Los Angeles.
28-Year old Ian David Long entered the bar during an event for local college students and opened fire. Among Long's victims is Ventura County Sheriff's Sgt. Ron Helus, a 29 year veteran of the sheriff's department.
Sgt. Helus was killed while responding to the scene. Long apparently took his life during the incident. A number of people inside the bar also survived the deadly shooting at a Las Vegas country music festival 13 months ago.
