Reds Sweep Guardians to Even Ohio Cup 2-2

The Cincinnati Reds defeated the Cleveland Guardians, 4-2, to split the annual Ohio Cup. The road team won all four games with the Guardians taking the first two in Cincinnati in April. However, the Guardians will retain the Ohio Cup for the eighth straight season.

On the field, Reds' Luis Cessa earned the win and allowed one run on two hits in 6.1 innings. Trevor Stephan took the loss after allowing three runs in the eighth inning. Starter Cal Quantrill had a no-decision despite allowing one run on five hits with five strikeouts in seven innings.

Franmil Reyes delivered the game's first run with a sacrifice fly in the second inning. This scored Owen Miller, who reached base with a double; one of the team's three hits on the afternoon.

Former Cleveland outfielder, Tyler Naquin, hit a solo home run in the fifth inning to tie the score at one. The Reds then scored three runs in the eighth inning to take a 4-1 lead. Kyle Farmer singled to score Tyler Naquin, then Albert Almora Jr. hit a sacrifice bunt, but a throwing error allowed Matt Reynolds to score. Finally, TJ Friedl hit a sacrifice fly to score Kyle Farmer.

Jose Ramirez delivered an RBI single in the eighth inning before leaving the game after fouling a pitch off his shin. Manager Terry Francona told reporters after the game that he will get X-rays.

The Guardians will host the Detroit Tigers for a three-game series starting tomorrow at 7:10 PM.
