The fun-loving gang from PETA wants to take on Groundhog Day.

With February 2nd just around the corner, People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals wants to do away with Punxsutawney Phil…and replace him with a “giant coin.”

In their eyes, “groundhogs can’t make heads or tails of the weather forecast and shouldn’t be jostled around by large members of a different species and thrust in front of noisy crowds for a photo op.”

Instead, PETA has offered a large coin that says “six more weeks of winter” on one side, and “an early spring” on the other.

The odds of a coin landing on one side or the other are 50%, whereas Phil’s shadow prediction tends to be accurate 40% of the time…so, technically, the coin does give better odds of a correct forecast.

However, “Coin Day” doesn’t have the same panache.
