Why Do We Celebrate St. Paddy's Day?

St. Patrick lived in the fifth century, where, as a young man, he was sold into slavery to a sheep farmer. After many years of toil, he managed to escape, but eventually returned to Ireland as a Christian missionary.

Legend has it that he explained the concept of Christianity’s Holy Trinity by showing people a shamrock with three leaves. The rest is history, and now, Ireland remains one of the “most Catholic countries” in the world.

Today, though, St. Patrick’s Day has become less religious and is more of a catchall celebration of Irish culture. So put on something green, grab a few shamrocks, join a parade, and celebrate!
