Russia's invasion of Ukraine has now lasted for more than 1,000 days, as Russian forces launched a massive strike on Ukraine’s energy facilities and military infrastructure over the weekend.
It's been a long, slow war of attrition, with Russia steadily advancing in eastern Ukraine amid heavy casualties for both sides.
The U.S. might soon play a different role in the war, with President-elect Donald Trump entering the White House in January. Trump has said on the campaign trail he could end the war "quickly", though he hasn't offered details on his plan.
