ABC News Political Analyst Steve Roberts - IHeart National Correspondents Erin Real-Rory O'Neill previewed the 2024 Election with Bill - As the tightest election in recent history crashes to a close, both sides can take heart from the latest polling results.
The New York Times reports that “there are signs that late deciders are breaking for Ms. Harris,” with voters who have recently made a choice favoring the Democrat by 55 to 44. Another favorable sign for Harris: women make up close to 54 percent of the electorate and the gender gap is huge. A late poll also showed Harris leading in Iowa, a deep red state. But Trump can point to gains he’s making in the nation’s most important state, Pennsylvania, and chances are rising that there will be a re-run of 2000, when one state—Florida—decided the election, and the outcome was exceedingly close, 537 votes out of almost 6 million. As contentious as that standoff was 24 years ago, a repeat would be far worse. Trump has already insisted that he can only lose if the other side cheats, and outlandish conspiracy theories are already sweeping through a digital space that barely existed in 2000. Lawyers on both sides have been preparing for months if not years for just this scenario. And the emotions and rivalries on both sides are far more intense than in the earlier show down, with both parties arguing that the other side is not just wrong, but evil, and would bring disaster to the country if they won.
