Cancer Patient Regains Voice After Rare Voice Box Transplant

A Massachusetts man has regained the ability to speak, after undergoing an exceptionally rare voice box transplant.

59-year-old Marty Kedian lost his voice after surgery to remove a cancerous larynx. 

But surgeons at the Mayo Clinic were able to perform a rare larynx transplant - only the third ever completed in the U.S. and the first on a cancer patient.

Kedian says it took about three weeks before he was able to say 'hello'.

He says the best part was calling his 82-year-old mother and being able to speak to her on the phone
