In Portage County, a 79-year-old attorney who mailed letters covered in feces to state lawmakers has been sentenced for his crimes.

Richard Steinle of Mogadore sent more than three dozen such letters to Republican members of the Ohio Senate between August of 2021 and July of 2023.

Steinle, who says he was upset about the state of the country, pleaded guilty in November to multiple violations of federal law.

He has been sentenced this week to serve two years of probation and to pay nearly $10,000 in fines and special assessments.
