A Southwest Airlines flight from New Orleans to Atlanta was cancelled on Sunday after a passenger jumped out of an emergency exit and climbed onto the wing of the plane.
The incident happened at about 8 p.m. Sunday at Louisiana’s Louis Armstrong International Airport as passengers were boarding the plane, according to the Jefferson Parish Sheriff’s Office. The plane was still at the gate, sheriff’s officials say.
Deputies apprehended the 38-year-old man on the tarmac, where they found him to be “incoherent” and “not fully aware” of his surroundings, a sheriff’s report reveals. He was taken to a nearby hospital for evaluation, a spokeswoman says.
Although Jefferson Parish Sheriff’s officials have decided against filing charges against the unidentified passenger, the spokeswoman says the case has been turned over to federal authorities.
