(Akron) Akron Police Chief Steve Mylett released the results of an internal department investigation into the June 2022 police shooting death of twenty-five-year old Jayland Walker. Mylett said the "officers had an objectively reasonable belief that Mr. Walker was armed" and "presented an imminent risk of serious bodily injury or death to them" and therefore the eight officers did not violate police policies. Results of a previous investigation by the Ohio Bureau of Criminal Investigation were presented to a special grand jury, which did not find evidence to indict the officers of any criminal charges. The Walker family has filed a lawsuit seeking damages of 45-million dollars. The Akron police officers have since returned to street duty.
