In an attempt to stop damaging the environment with fossil fuels, New York has banned gas stoves in all new homes and businesses.
The ban, which was buried in paperwork for a $229 billion state budget, was approved by the New York State Legislature Tuesday night. Not only does it ban gas stoves in new homes and businesses, the legislation also requires all buildings taller than seven stories to have electric heating and cooking by 2026, per lawmakers.
The legislation does include some exceptions, however. Hospitals, restaurants, manufacturing plants and even car washes aren’t required to make the switch, legislators say.
