An eighth grade wrestler in Illinois has become the subject of a police investigation after he reportedly broke his opponent’s nose after losing a match.

The incident happened on April 8th in Oak Park, where the unidentified wrestler had just lost a match 14-2, police say. When the winner reached out to shake the other boy’s hand, the loser cocked back his arm and punched him in the nose, knocking him onto the mat, authorities say. The victim suffered a broken nose in the unexpected attack.

Although police have yet to file any charges in the case, both the victim’s parents and the general public are calling for cops to throw the book at the sore loser. “Charge him with assault,” one Twitter user writes. “No place for that in our sport.” Another person tweets, “He should be off the team permanently. Absolutely vile and disgusting behavior unbefitting an athlete of any age.”
