CLEVELAND - Think Spring! “Gardening with Angelo” returns to the airwaves on Saturday, March 4th from 8 a.m. to 9 a.m. on Newsradio WTAM 1100. Angelo Petitti has been taking calls from radio listeners since the 1980’s not long after Petitti Garden Center was founded by Angelo in 1971.
Angelo immigrated to the United States in 1963 at the age of 16 from a small mountain village in Southeast Italy. In 1966, he started Petitti Landscape Company. His brother, Domenico, joined him and they bought an oversized garage in 1969 in Oakwood Village to store their trucks, landscape equipment and plant material. Passersby began to visit, inquiring about the plants and they found themselves in a complementary business. Petitti says, “every challenge is an opportunity”.
By the 1980’s, Angelo opened six seasonal locations in the parking lots of Gold Circle discount department stores. In 1985, he opened the Tallmadge location, Petitti’s oldest existing location after Oakwood Village.
Today, the locally grown and family owned business seeded by Angelo in a small garage has grown into nine year-round locations in Avon, Bainbridge, Boardman, Brunswick, Canton/Jackson Township, Mentor, Oakwood Village, Strongsville and Tallmadge.
