Westlake Police Department Blotter for 2/17- 2/23

  • On 2/17/23 at approx. 10:30 PM WPD responded to the report of a one-car crash on I90 E/B before Columbia Rd. Officers arrived to find that the car was facing the wrong way on the highway after it had struck a guardrail. When the officers contacted the driver, a 22-year-old Cleveland resident tried to get out his damaged driver’s door. The man appeared intoxicated and had to be helped by the officers to maintain his balance as he was so unsteady on his feet. He was arrested for OVI and transported to the Westlake Jail. The driver refused a breath test and was placed under administrative license suspension. He was later transported to the hospital due to his extreme intoxication.
  • On 2/18/23 at about 8:15 PM, officers on patrol noted that a vehicle’s license plate ahead of them belonged to a female with a felony warrant out of Lorain County for Larceny- Theft of Dangerous Drugs. The car was stopped, and the female was detained while the warrant was confirmed. The Westlake 66 year -old was arrested and turned over to The Lorain County Sheriff’s Dept.
  • On 2/21/23 at approx. 5:30 PM WPD received a call about a 3-car crash on Columbia north of Detroit Rd. There were no injuries reported. When officers were responding, they learned that an occupant of one of the vehicles was attacking the driver of another involved truck. When officers arrived, they learned the assailant had left the scene with a young child in tow. While several officers investigated the traffic crash, additional units found the assault suspect at the BP gas station in Detroit at Columbia. He claimed that he left the area because the 5yo was cold. He was detained without further incident, and the child was turned over to the grandparents, who arrived soon after. The 21yo Elyria resident had been the passenger in a vehicle struck from behind. The man also had entered warrants for previous felonious assaults, gun charges, and several counts of Murder out of Lorain County. Although no one reported injuries from the traffic crash, the victim of the assault later sought treatment at a local hospital. The suspect was charged with a new count of misdemeanor assault through Rocky River Municipal Court, and a protection order was issued. The suspect was later turned over to Lorain County Deputies to answer the charges in that county.
  • On 2/22/23 at approx. 5 PM officers responded to a business in the 28000 block of Center Ridge Rd for a reported break-in. The owner said that someone had stolen tools and had cut the lock off a garage on the property. A report was taken.
  • On 2/23/23 at about 4:30 PM, WPD learned that a vehicle driven by a female wanted for a shooting in Youngstown was possibly at Crocker Park. Youngstown PD was looking for the 31yo Brooklyn, OH female and relayed a description of the car she was driving. WPD officers located the female, who was also wanted out of Parma PD, walking at the shopping center. She was taken into custody without incident. WPD housed the shooting suspect at WPD Jail until she could be transferred to the Youngstown PD.
