The Texas Department of Motor Vehicles turned down a Houston resident's application for a potential license plate because it contained a "vulgar" phrase.
According to a press release from People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA), Catie Cryar requested a license plate with the letters "LVTOFU." The license plate "does not contain profanity and is designed to inspire more people to try tofu," a PETA spokesperson claimed.
The phrase, according to a Texas DMV representative, "contains a common acronym for a vulgar term." Cryar has submitted an appeal.
