Sailors Rescued After 10 Days Adrift in Atlantic Ocean

What started as a fun trip from New York to the Florida Keys quickly became a disaster for two friends and a miniature poodle. Shortly after departing an inlet on December 3rd, the pair then lost contact with their families, according to the U.S. Coast Guard. Subsequently, they lost power and fuel which left them adrift for more than 10 days.

However, on Tuesday, the men aged 76 and 65 were rescued and the miniature poodle after a tanker spotted them about 214 miles off the coast of Delaware. The men said they had very little food and no water for two whole days, resorting to cutting the water lines on the boat and sucking water out.

They also tried numerous times through the night to get help by using a blinking searchlight to no avail. According to the Coast Guard, the men were very cold and fatigued when they were rescued. When asked if the men would ever attempt to sail from New Jersey to Florida again they agreed to stay closer to shore and in sight of land.
