South Carolina authorities have located the body of a mall janitor who went missing last week -- in a bathroom she'd been cleaning.
The body of 63-year-old Bessie Durham was discovered Monday in the bathroom of a Belk store, which is located inside Columbiana Mall, authorities say. Although her cleaning cart had been sitting outside the bathroom for four days, apparently no one at the store had questioned why it had been left behind -- or moved it, for that matter.
Now an investigation has been launched to determine whether charges should be filed against the retailer, says Melron Kelly, deputy chief of the Columbia Police Department. "We're still working with the mall to find out what their processes are for closing down the store, inspecting the store, and things of that nature," Kelly says. "We're still going through the footage to see just how long they've been there."
