Bay Village Police Blotter: Drivers Passing School Buses

News notes from the Bay Village, Ohio Police Department.

On 08/23/2022, at 0752 hrs, a resident in the 25000 block of Lake Rd. called BVPD to report a neighbor’s landscaper had started cutting the grass at 0730 hrs. in violation of the noise ordinance. An officer was dispatched to speak with the Landscaper. He was advised of the complaint and in the future will not start until 0800 hrs.

On 08/23/2022, at 1152 hrs, a resident in the 26000 block of Knickerbocker reported there was a truck hooked up to jet skis that was parked in a driveway and blocking the sidewalk. An officer responded to the residence and had the owner move the vehicle. 

On 08/24/2022, at 1240 hrs, a Bay Village BOE Bus Driver reported that someone had passed his stopped school bus with flashing red lights and stop sign extended while he was loading children. The driver was stopped on Lake Rd. near Columbia when the violation occurred. After reviewing the video surveillance from the bus, police were able to identify the driver. The 16-yoa Bay Village resident was cited for Passing a Stopped School Bus and will face charges at CCJC. 

On 08/25/2022, at 0115 hrs, a BVPD officer stopped a vehicle on Bradley near Lake Rd. for multiple traffic violations. After speaking with the male driver, the officer suspected the driver had been drinking. Field sobriety tests were administered, and as a result, the driver was arrested for OVI. The 37-yoa Bay Village resident will face charges at RRMC. 

On 08/25/2022, at 1420 hrs, a BVPD officer attempted to stop a vehicle on Beach Lane after it passed a stopped school bus. The vehicle fled, and the officer pursued the vehicle down Osborn to Sutcliff before finding it stopped in a driveway in the 27000 block of Knickerbocker. The driver was already out of the vehicle and apologetically approached the officer. He claimed he got scared because he had “weed” on him. The 23-yoa Bay Village resident was cited for Reckless Operation, Passing a Stopped School Bus, and Possession of Drugs. He will face charges at RRMC.

On 08/27/2022, at 1300 hrs,  BVPD received a complaint from a resident in the 23000 block of Knickerbocker about a male riding a minibike down the side walk that almost struck two pedestrians.Officers located the owner of the minibike who had already parked it in his garage. The juvenile was advised of the complaint and educated on the laws.   

On 08/27/2022, at 1527 hrs, a resident reported his locked bicycle was been stolen from the Bay Village Family Aquatic Center. He had locked his bike to the bike rack on 08/12/2022, and when he went to retrieve it on 08/27/2022, it was gone. Police are investigating.
